Kristian’s Stargate project

I have a made a “working” Stargate model from the SG1 TV-show. It spins, the chevrons move and lights up and when a correct address is dialled, the wormhole is established. The wormhole is an infinity mirror effect. The stargate is controlled with a DHD. You can check out the video presentation of the Stargate in action here:

Here is a video showing one Stargate dialing another Stargate

I like 3d printing, electronics, programming and making stuff. I also enjoy the Stargate TV-series and decided to make a “working” model of the stargate as seen in the TV-show.

This was a challenging and fun project and I had to learn a lot of new stuff. This has been a very time-consuming project. There are a few variations of Stargates used in the show and I chose to make the original one from the SG1 series. There are also several logical “glitches” in the technical workings of the gate as seen in the TV show and it even behaves differently in different episodes. I have made it work as best I can while staying as true as possible to the feeling and essence of the TV-Show.

Features

  • A fully interactive working Stargate complete with a DHD (Dial Home Device).
  • The Stargate ring spins and places the dialled symbol on the correct chevron as the traveller is inputting the address by using the DHD.
  • All 7 chevrons move and lights up when engaged.
  • The Stargate can dial any milky-way address used in the show.
  • NEW: The stargate can now dial other stargates over the Internet, and receive incoming wormholes from other stargates on the Internet.
  • When a correct address is input using the DHD, the wormhole is established.
  • The wormhole effect consists of a animated infinity mirror of 122 LED’s.
  • Complete with sound effects from the TV Show.
  • When the wormhole stays open, selected random audio clips from the TV-Show is played.
  • As in the TV-Show the wormhole can stay open for 38 minutes. When the time limit is reached, a random quote from the show where the time limit is mentioned is played and the wormhole disengages.
  • Do not dial the black hole.
  • The Stargate itself is about 39 cm in diameter.

  1. Hallo Kristian,
Das wohl schönste und detailreichste Stargate. Super gemacht. Gruß aus Österreich

  2. Hi,

I’m really interested in creating a stargate, and it would be largely inspired by yours. I started messing around with an arduino a few months ago and I would like to know : what determined your choice on a Raspberry Pi ? Do you think it would be possible with an arduino?

    Thanks from France

    1. Hi Sylvain,
The main reason for choosing a raspberry pi for this project, was that I was already familiar with it. Also, being a “full computer” it gives us a lot of choices and possibilities. Maybe it could be done similarly with an arduino, but the raspperry is usually my “goto device”.

  3. Hello Kristian,

I know a few Air Force pals that would love to get a gate like this, and myself. I know you can not mass produce these amazing products. However would you do a payment plan option and wait list? Just some suggestions. What would price be? . Not everyone can drop $9k, as the last auction showed.

  4. Is this whole thing available to buy anywhere? Would make a great Bday gift for soneone i know

  5. Hi, I love the star gate. I’ve seen the original 10 seasons two times I’d love such a beautiful gate to home.

  6. Dude you are amazing and thank you for spending your time to create this work of art ,it is one thing to think of something but you created it! ,iv’e one on the way and can’t wait to get it .

  7. I seen your Stargate on a website called motbbt is this your product or a scam they was going for $70.

      1. Thank you and I really appreciate it to let me know when are you going to be selling yours again

    1. I just received a gate from motbbt today. It is the wrong gate and it didn’t come with the DHD part either.I tried to contact them but their store is shut down.

  8. Do you know when you will be back in production on making the Stargate. Please let me know I would like to have one in my collection.

  9. Do you know when you will be able to produce more Stargate. I would like to have one in my collection appreciate it.

  10. I actually owe a debt of gratitude to the scam sites that stole your media. If it weren’t for an advertisement in a game I was playing purportedly selling these for $69.95 I wouldn’t have been aware of your amazing work.
The amount of detail (both artistically and technically) in your project is staggering. Bravo on your accomplishment!
Just out of curiosity if you were approached by some entity with the resources to translate this into a production model would you consider it? I’m sure it would be a difficult decision. As any artist that licenses their work I suppose you could face the possibility that they might butcher or cheapen the design. As I said I’m only asking out of curiosity. I’m not secretly representing a mega corporation!
The amount of skill, work, money, and time that you’ve invested is truly mind boggling. Thank you most of all for sharing the process with us in such detail.

    1. UGH…. you are way smarter than me. I fell for it but I only paid 50 US thank god. It was an absolute piece of junk but it actually doesnt look too bad from a distance but it does nothing like this gate does. Im an idiot. I sent the page author all the info I really hope others will learn from my mistake and not get bamboozled like me.

  11. Hi Kristian, I’m in Australia and by far sg1 was the best, so glad you modelled it. Can you buy the one you made anywhere? I’m seen it on a site called [link removed]. is that legit? Regards Lez

    1. Buying from those Chinese sites will not get you a Stargate as seen on this site. They are using media from this project to scam people

      1. It’s a scam I tried to get three of them and spent almost 200 dollars and I got a mirror with a night light attached to it. Never received the other two.

  12. Looks like someone stole your photos and are pretending to sell on Facebook. I have reported them:

  13. This is so cool. I just love it. I have been looking at 3D printers, but just passed up an incredible sale for one just days ago since I haven’t decided yet. I so wish that this was something I could actually purchase, but I will have to enjoy this vicariously. What an incredible job you did with creating this. Well done.

    Me gustaría conversar contigo

  15. Omg I grew up watching the shows with my dad. Are you selling these soon? Or are they easy to make without a 3D printer?

  16. Good Morning Kristian,

Do you by any chance sell the Chevron PCB’s. I am in the process of building one of your Stargates and I think building the PCB’s is a little out of my comfort zone.

    Thank you

    Andrew
