Kristian’s Stargate project

I have a made a “working” Stargate model from the SG1 TV-show. It spins, the chevrons move and lights up and when a correct address is dialled, the wormhole is established. The wormhole is an infinity mirror effect. The stargate is controlled with a DHD. You can check out the video presentation of the Stargate in action here:

Here is a video showing one Stargate dialing another Stargate

I like 3d printing, electronics, programming and making stuff. I also enjoy the Stargate TV-series and decided to make a “working” model of the stargate as seen in the TV-show.

This was a challenging and fun project and I had to learn a lot of new stuff. This has been a very time-consuming project. There are a few variations of Stargates used in the show and I chose to make the original one from the SG1 series. There are also several logical “glitches” in the technical workings of the gate as seen in the TV show and it even behaves differently in different episodes. I have made it work as best I can while staying as true as possible to the feeling and essence of the TV-Show.

Features

  • A fully interactive working Stargate complete with a DHD (Dial Home Device).
  • The Stargate ring spins and places the dialled symbol on the correct chevron as the traveller is inputting the address by using the DHD.
  • All 7 chevrons move and lights up when engaged.
  • The Stargate can dial any milky-way address used in the show.
  • NEW: The stargate can now dial other stargates over the Internet, and receive incoming wormholes from other stargates on the Internet.
  • When a correct address is input using the DHD, the wormhole is established.
  • The wormhole effect consists of a animated infinity mirror of 122 LED’s.
  • Complete with sound effects from the TV Show.
  • When the wormhole stays open, selected random audio clips from the TV-Show is played.
  • As in the TV-Show the wormhole can stay open for 38 minutes. When the time limit is reached, a random quote from the show where the time limit is mentioned is played and the wormhole disengages.
  • Do not dial the black hole.
  • The Stargate itself is about 39 cm in diameter.

  1. By the way, I’ve heard that Jeff Bezos is a massive Stargate fan, and Again, I believe, now golf the rights to the franchise. Perhaps Amazon would be willing to produce these based on your original? That would be excellent, and save you reading 40 variations of “how much to build me one” every month Kristian 😂

  2. I’d it possible to purchase one a d if so what is the cost? I absolutely love what you have made here it’s incredible!!

  3. came across another site using your pictures selling for about 40 gbp that was with a 70% discount. they said they were based in MISSOURI USA but the actual address was China. oh and the contactcemail didnt work. defo a rip off. just thought I’d let you know.

  4. I don’t have the ability to make one myself. I don’t have a printer I don’t have electrical skills or IT skills. But I would absolutely love to have one of these. can I pay for one to be made? that is the most amazing peice I’ve seen. and as others have mentioned. I found you because I saw a scam of Facebook and recognizing it. I went in search to find the actual one.

  5. I would absolutely love to make one of these myself if possible, do you have the plans already laid out with supplies listed and possibly the 3d printed portions already set aside to load as stl files? perhaps a how-to guide as well? thanks 🙏 in advance. or would you be willing to take a commission on making another one?

  6. Hey kristian, I saw an ad on Facebook selling these exact Stargates. Same pictures and videos even. I’m hoping that’s you making money. If not someone is pretending and using your idea and videos. I would assume they are scamming people if it’s not you. Please confirm if that’s you or not. Thank you

  7. Hi Kristian, I’ve been hunting through the Internet trying to find the original creator of this masterpiece ever since I saw it being sold for a little over 60$ on some sketchy website and now that I think I’ve found him I have only one question.
For what price would would you be willing to make one for me?

  8. bonjour 👋

Great Job! Just like the Movie, can you build one for me, and how much does it cost please? I have an idea for creating the vortex water spiral that comes out of the stargates on the tv, I’ll try to build one and then maybe we can get in touch with eachother and do a free swap??!!?? I thank you for the great model and wish you all the best of health and happyness in your life, regards, Marcel Schulte

  10. FYI, Walmart is selling, through a Chinese company, a version of your gate. When I say ‘version’ think 50th copy of a copy on a copier from the 1980’s. It is a very poor representation, with none of the functionality of your gate.

However, they are using your photos and description, on the Walmart website, to sell it. Here is the link: https://www.walmart.com/ip/Film-Memorial-Collection-Stargate/1104119897

I sent info to Walmart, through their “incorrect product description” tool on the page, that they were falsely advertising using stolen pictures/description. That what this person was selling was nothing like what you made.

  11. Hello Kristian,

    It’s an amazing job.
And i have the reflexion to make one of it with your files.
Just one question i would like to ask: I’m french and is it possible to change the audio by myself ?

    1. Hi yannic
Yes. The random audio clips are played from a folder on the pi. You can add or replace audio files in that folder as you wish. If you need more detailed instructions, feel free to contact me on discord or via email.

  12. Hey Kristian, thank you for making this incredible creation!

I noticed that in your design, all of the cheverons move with a servo motor, but looking back at clips from the show, it looks like most of the stargates don’t have moving cheverons at all, and SGC’s stargate only has one moving cheveron (the top one).

Why did you chose to make all the cheverons move?

    1. Hi Yarin. That is a good question.
If you check out the original stargate movie you will find that the chevrons are moving. There is a clip on YouTube here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=n3ihWxPL5eA
My version is a mix of both when it comes to chevron movement. For me, this way is more logical. A symbol is rotated to the chevron, and the chevron locks or registers the symbol, and the dialing continues.
