Kristian’s Stargate project

I have a made a “working” Stargate model from the SG1 TV-show. It spins, the chevrons move and lights up and when a correct address is dialled, the wormhole is established. The wormhole is an infinity mirror effect. The stargate is controlled with a DHD. You can check out the video presentation of the Stargate in action here:

Here is a video showing one Stargate dialing another Stargate

I like 3d printing, electronics, programming and making stuff. I also enjoy the Stargate TV-series and decided to make a “working” model of the stargate as seen in the TV-show.

This was a challenging and fun project and I had to learn a lot of new stuff. This has been a very time-consuming project. There are a few variations of Stargates used in the show and I chose to make the original one from the SG1 series. There are also several logical “glitches” in the technical workings of the gate as seen in the TV show and it even behaves differently in different episodes. I have made it work as best I can while staying as true as possible to the feeling and essence of the TV-Show.

Features

  • A fully interactive working Stargate complete with a DHD (Dial Home Device).
  • The Stargate ring spins and places the dialled symbol on the correct chevron as the traveller is inputting the address by using the DHD.
  • All 7 chevrons move and lights up when engaged.
  • The Stargate can dial any milky-way address used in the show.
  • NEW: The stargate can now dial other stargates over the Internet, and receive incoming wormholes from other stargates on the Internet.
  • When a correct address is input using the DHD, the wormhole is established.
  • The wormhole effect consists of a animated infinity mirror of 122 LED’s.
  • Complete with sound effects from the TV Show.
  • When the wormhole stays open, selected random audio clips from the TV-Show is played.
  • As in the TV-Show the wormhole can stay open for 38 minutes. When the time limit is reached, a random quote from the show where the time limit is mentioned is played and the wormhole disengages.
  • Do not dial the black hole.
  • The Stargate itself is about 39 cm in diameter.

  1. Are there any plans to do a a earth style gate complete with iris id love to have this and a earth style or even different gate faces for different galaxys

    1. Hi David,
You can find an Earth gate ramp that fits this project on thingiverse. However, there is no iris. There are two different bases included directly in the project.

  2. Hi is the stl pre cut into pieces for smaller beds or do you need a 400mm printer bed to print this

  3. I’ve just started rewatching the series after 15 years, started to wonder if any companies had made an interactive model, found your site and model and was completly blown away. Pure art! Well done for what you have created.

  4. Hi, Kristian,

Are your DHD PCB different from the ones Jonathan sells on Etsy?
I live in the US, but seems Jonathan has stopped selling these on Etsy.

    1. Hi Alex,
The functionality is exactly the same. I think Jonathan switched to SMD buttons, so they may look a bit different. But other than that, it’s the same.

  7. Hi.
I am looking at making a 1/24 scale diorama with the Stargate, DHD, F.R.E.D and figures if I can find decent ones.

If I am right the inner diameter of the Stargate is 2 metres or just over. Can you please advise on the size of the Stargate and DHD, or advise on the size I would need to print the parts off to get the gate to the size I need?
    Cheers

  8. Just discovered this project. When dialing another physical gate (not the hardcoded ones from the show), would it be possible to disable the stock sounds and turn on a VOIP channel? I’m only familiar with the technology used, as mentioned in the setup on this page, but I would be greatly amused to dial up a friend’s gate address and talk to them.

    1. Hi Kenzal,
Yes, it would probably be possible. It has been discussed previously also, and in combinatin with a web camera. There are a lot of concerns that comes with this kind of setup. I do not think I will implement it from my side. However, a web UI for dialling etc, could include a chat option.

  9. Hi Kristian,
Respect for your work and passion. What you have created is absolutly impressive.
I have to inform you that the webshop ,,fruugo” is using pics of your Stargate Modell for advetising theire own stuff.
    Link below.
Costumers see youre detailed working Modell.
But what they sell is absolutely waste.
Maybe you want to know that.

Greetings from Germany and sorry for my bad english 😉

  10. I would like to buy one of these! I have tried to find one just like it and I have two, now that are not even close to what you are showing on your site. These other clowns are using your site, your photos and description and when I get it, it looks nothing like what you have on yours! SO DISAPPOINTED! PLEASE !!! Build another one and I’ll buy it immediately! THANK YOU!!!!

  11. It certainly would! I will have one available shortly, but the shear amount of work involved means it won’t be cheap!

  12. i can only imagine this is some serious work…but I must ask the question tht you probably been asked on diff ways.
wouldn’t be easier to just purchase her a a full build?

  13. Hi Joe_M,
Thanks for reaching out. The Stargate Project is working and active. We also have a thriving discord community. Subspace is up and running.

  14. Has anyone bought this recently? I would like to buy the files but want to make sure everything is still working. Thank you
