Kristian’s Stargate project

Currently there are a few sites using the videos and pictures from this project , claiming to sell stargates. Those sites are scams! If you buy a stargate from those sites, you will not receive a stargate as seen here.

I have a made a “working” Stargate model from the SG1 TV-show. It spins, the chevrons move and lights up and when a correct address is dialled, the wormhole is established. The wormhole is an infinity mirror effect. The gate is controlled with a DHD. You can check out the video presentation of the Stargate in action here:

Here is a video showing one Stargate dialing another Stargate

I like 3d printing, electronics, programming and making stuff. I also enjoy the Stargate TV-series and decided to make a “working” model of the gate as seen in the TV-show.

This was a challenging and fun project and I had to learn a lot of new stuff. This has been a very time-consuming project. There are a few variations of Stargates used in the show and I chose to make the original one from the SG1 series. There are also several logical “glitches” in the technical workings of the gate as seen in the TV show and it even behaves differently in different episodes. I have made it work as best I can while staying as true as possible to the feeling and essence of the TV-Show.

  • A fully interactive working Stargate complete with a DHD (Dial Home Device).
  • The Stargate ring spins and places the dialled symbol on the correct chevron as the traveller is inputting the address by using the DHD.
  • All 7 chevrons move and lights up when engaged.
  • The Stargate can dial any milky-way address used in the show.
  • When a correct address is input using the DHD, the wormhole is established.
  • The wormhole effect consists of a animated infinity mirror of 122 LED’s.
  • Complete with sound effects from the TV Show.
  • When the wormhole stays open, selected random audio clips from the TV-Show is played.
  • As in the TV-Show the wormhole can stay open for 38 minutes. When the time limit is reached, a random quote from the show where the time limit is mentioned is played and the wormhole disengages.
  • The Stargate itself is about 39 cm in diameter.

  1. This is absolutely amazing.
I know I’ll never get around to making one of my own, but for anyone else who’s motivated, y’all should consider adding a voiceover during the dialing process so you can hear Walter confirming that chevron 5 is encoded. Walter deserves our appreciation.

  2. First of all ! Awesome !!! in the DIY Archive is there also a complete list of all other used components ?

  3. Rita Cabrera De La Torre

dude, you can totally do a kickstarter on this and so many of us would buy it!!!

  4. Hi,

I see you used the chevron locking mechanism from the movie (each chevron lock a sign and light up).

Could you program it to lock the chevron like in the show (Only the top chevron lock the sign and the next chevron light up) so we can switch between the two?

    1. Hi Gotiano,
Yes, I wanted to make all the chevrons move. 🙂
However, all the mechanics are there. So it’s just a matter of tweaking the code to make other “dialing modes”. If someday I have some spare hours, I might take a look at doing that. Thanks for the tip.

Dear friend, I am from Russia. My husband and I were big fans of stargate for many years. How can I buy this product and what is the price?

  6. Hi,

I tried to subscribe for the next auction, but I got this error message: “You do not have permission to add subscriber”

  7. I would love if you sold a kit of the electronics ready to go and stl files for printing. As with everyone else I’m totally enamored with this build and would pay almost anything to obtain one.
