Kristian’s Stargate project

I have a made a “working” Stargate model from the SG1 TV-show. It spins, the chevrons move and lights up and when a correct address is dialled, the wormhole is established. The wormhole is an infinity mirror effect. The stargate is controlled with a DHD. You can check out the video presentation of the Stargate in action here:

Here is a video showing one Stargate dialing another Stargate

I like 3d printing, electronics, programming and making stuff. I also enjoy the Stargate TV-series and decided to make a “working” model of the stargate as seen in the TV-show.

This was a challenging and fun project and I had to learn a lot of new stuff. This has been a very time-consuming project. There are a few variations of Stargates used in the show and I chose to make the original one from the SG1 series. There are also several logical “glitches” in the technical workings of the gate as seen in the TV show and it even behaves differently in different episodes. I have made it work as best I can while staying as true as possible to the feeling and essence of the TV-Show.

Features

  • A fully interactive working Stargate complete with a DHD (Dial Home Device).
  • The Stargate ring spins and places the dialled symbol on the correct chevron as the traveller is inputting the address by using the DHD.
  • All 7 chevrons move and lights up when engaged.
  • The Stargate can dial any milky-way address used in the show.
  • NEW: The stargate can now dial other stargates over the Internet, and receive incoming wormholes from other stargates on the Internet.
  • When a correct address is input using the DHD, the wormhole is established.
  • The wormhole effect consists of a animated infinity mirror of 122 LED’s.
  • Complete with sound effects from the TV Show.
  • When the wormhole stays open, selected random audio clips from the TV-Show is played.
  • As in the TV-Show the wormhole can stay open for 38 minutes. When the time limit is reached, a random quote from the show where the time limit is mentioned is played and the wormhole disengages.
  • Do not dial the black hole.
  • The Stargate itself is about 39 cm in diameter.

  1. This is impressive. A work of love **and** engineering. Given the Plan kit and the DHD board, any idea of the rough parts budget? I’m guessing 500-600 € or $ at minimum….

    1. Hi Keith,
Thank you very much for your kind words! And wow, your guess is spot on! The estimate for the hardware cost in the list at the bottom of the page here is about 520Euro, depending on where you live and if you need to pay import fees to get some of the hardware. There are some hardware modifications coming that will make it a bit cheaper and a bit easier.

  2. This is amazing. I saw an ad on IG for the supposed product, which got me researching and I came across your site. I’m glad I did. (The site store for that was JAZMEAN, complete with “I bought this awesome product” comments) Now for the real one: Is the dial wired to the gate? How long did it take to create? Are you going to make any others? (The SGA gate would be fun to see). I would totally buy this if it were really for sale…well, as long as I could afford it. Lol

Thank you for showing it off, I’m sorry the scammers got a hold of it 😕

    1. Hi Melinda,
I am glad to hear you saw through the scam and did your research!
Yes, the DHD is wired to the stargate with a USB cable.
The first version you see in the youtube video took about 18 months.
Yes, I do want to make the others also. The next attempt will be the pegasus one i think.

Thanks for commenting, and I am glad you like the project.

  3. hello,

I absolutely love it and would be ready to order one … some FB Scams are selling for 60-90$ that what made me search for it and find your post.

Congrats and keep up the great work

  4. Any future plans for an Atlantis Stargate? I kinda prefer the more “Ancient” modern style / look / aesthetic of it.

    1. Thank you for giving me your divided attention. I shared this on Facebook to prevent scams. Facebook scams can be tracked.

  5. Hello. I truly would like to purchase one. Please contact me and let me know if you can make me one. I truly am extremely serious about this. I won a walk on years ago and I was in Season 7 for one episode. It was the highlight of my life. So I beg of you I would totally like to purchase one. Please let me know. Thank you so much. You have my email please message me there or here. I truly do appreciate your time and this is truly amazing.
    Thank you so much

  7. What 3D filament printer is a good, trouble-free printer. I had an ANET A8 and it sucked. I have an Elegoo Mars resin printer and love it. I don’t think I can make the ring or stairs parts. If someone needs resin-printed parts that I can make in exchange for the bigger parts I can’t, I’m up for that. Contact me. I’m in the USA in Florida.

  8. I saw the same ad on Facebook and remembered seeing your 3D Stargate. I figured you made some and wanted to sell them because of such positive feedback. I’m glad I came here to double check things.

  9. This is really cool, but i am just wondering on a variation here… beyond the basic model. Not sure if you are already experimenting with this but I would like to see a variant where two or more stargates are placed around the house and by dialing one you receive a video stream through those light effects from the other room. You can setup a stargate network in your house this way for communication — and maybe in the far future sending food upstairs so your teenager doesn’t have to come to the kitchen for lunch 🙂

  10. in my FB feed there is a link to a website called Amethystly selling based on your videos. Is it feasable they are actually building from your plans, or unlikely based on what you know the construction costs and construction times are for this project?

    1. It’s most definitely a scam! If they actually had stargates for sale like seen in the videos, they would not have to use my videos or pictures. They could use their own.

      1. Rodolfo V Turla Jr.

I think i got scammed. I just paid for one and it states it will be here. I did not know you were the original designer truly

  11. You definitely should offer to sell this stargate. It’s so incredible looking!! You would definitely have quite a few sales and people out there won’t be fooled by those other scammer sites using your video and photos!

  12. 😱 I want one. Take my $$! Seriously..you should find a way to make this go big. It looks amazing.

  13. There’s one just popped up on Facebook called the Amethystly Store. They’re using your photos and saying it’s on sale, half price!

    1. Yeahhh… there are a lot of pop-up sites claiming to be selling these models. We want to buy one, but haven’t found one yet that isn’t a scam site. DH is posting fraud notices as fast as he can find them, but it’s like playing cosmic whack-a-mole 🙁

  14. Arturas Kundrotas

There are a couple of “shops” online that are using your imagery and selling your project as a complete product.
God knows what would one receive if ordered from there..

    1. Hi, Arturas Kundrotas
Thanks for reporting the links. They have been popping up like crazy lately. One of the links you reported was new to me. Thank you.

  15. This is sooo cool! would be cool to make it so you can add a voip to the raspberry so when you call another gate you can speak to the person on the other side.

Also reported a few facebook adverts claiming to sell this!
